This is Astegos founder, Tim Flaherty.
Today, on our 9th anniversary, I felt I should say something.
Nine years ago, I quit my job at Interfaith Sanctuary Housing Services, Inc. (also known as IFS), a homeless shelter I loved and worked tirelessly for day and night alongside some of the best people I’ve ever known. For a number of reasons, I decided to start a new nonprofit that would go out and fill the gaps in our community.
Our motto has always been simple: Help as many as we can, one at a time.
What a ride it has been. All these years later, I am humbled by the work we do. We’ve grown far beyond a half dozen committed friends who came together to flip pancakes on Sunday mornings with me.
To everyone who has ever helped us, donated to us, served alongside us as a volunteer, or worked for us as an employee, I am honored that you gave your time and treasure to us.
When I was in grade school, I had an art teacher. Whenever I was just about done with a project, I would show it to him and ask, “What do you think?” and each time, I was hoping he would say, “Good job, you’re finished. You can go ahead and start to clean up.” But instead, I always heard the same response:
“That, Tim, is a great start. Let’s see where you can take it from here.”
So as I look at the incredible work that Astegos.org has done over these last nine years, I find myself asking again, “What do you think?”.
Unequivocally, Astegos.org is a great start, and I cannot wait to see where we take from here.
